The Seuso Working Committee
Representatives of the Hungarian National Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, at the request of the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, set up a committee in charge of the scientific research of the Seuso treasure in 2014. The members of the Seuso Working Committee are the representatives of institutions which primarily undertake the leading role in the Seuso research project.
The two national museums co-ordinating the research and collecting ancient artefacts, namely the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Museum, regard the research of the Seuso treasure as one of the chief tasks of their scientific co-operation. The archaeometric research of the treasure is coordinated by the Institute for Geological and Geochemical Research of the Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences (former institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences), which has more than 25 years of experience in this field.
The chairman of the Seuso Working Committee is László Török, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and professor emeritus of Archaeological Institute of the Research Centre for the Humanities. Its secretary is the head of the Roman Collection of the Hungarian National Museum. Its members are the general director of the Museum of Fine Arts, who played a key role in repatriating the Seuso treasure to Hungary, and the general director of the Hungarian National Museum, where the treasure is permanently kept. Further members of the Working Committee are the director of the Institute for Geological and Geochemical Research and the director of the Archaeological Institute of the Research Centre for the Humanities both are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, as well as the head of the Collection of Classical Antiquities and the classical archaeologist coordinator of the Seuso research project from the Museum of Fine Arts. The Seuso Working Committee’s task is to coordinate the scientific research of the Seuso treasure.
